Water Cool and Cleansing

Today was the last day of my mini-vacation before going back to work, so I'm writing this in the hope that it will help me remember the good times I've had this go-round. The past few days have largely been spent hanging around the apartment, cuddling with the cat and browsing the internet. Today the boy and I went to the Aquarium of the Pacific, though, and made a date out of it. I love that even though we've been together for nearly a year and a half (and we live together, aspects of which can be decidedly un-romantic. Dirty laundry, litterbox duty, ugh) we still try to have special time together.

The lorikeets were adorable, as were the penguins, puffins and (of course) the sea lions. I wish I could have gotten better pictures of the tanks, but alas my little digital camera doesn't allow for particularly sophisticated photography. Still hoping for that rebel for my birthday, but I'm not holding my breath.

One of my goals for the near future is to learn more about photography so that I can really document the adventures we plan on having. Despite currently living in the city, Michael and I are both naturalists at heart and we both feel the most at home when we've found a quiet spot in the middle of the forest. It's pretty incredible what's within a 2 hour drive of our home - forests as far as the eye can see, stretching across endless mountains. In the other direction, a vast desert. It's a veritable forest of bizarre plants which have somehow survived in those harsh conditions.

So hopefully you've gotten a little bit of an idea of - well, me for now. A small snapshot of my life? More to come later.
